Operationalizing the Maturon: Development of a Psychometric Instrument for Quantifying Human Maturity Using the Human Maturogram (hMTG) Framework

Abstract

Traditional approaches to assessing human maturity (hM) have often been fragmented, relying on qualitative observations or domain-specific metrics that overlook the holistic interplay of biological, psychological, and social dimensions across the lifespan. This paper introduces the Human Maturogram (hMTG), a conceptual and quantitative framework designed to advance the emerging field of maturology. The hMTG enables multidimensional maturity assessment across life stages, structured through five concentric cycles: milestones, lustra, decades, generations, and three maturity stages-dependence, independence, and interdependence. A key innovation is the Maturity Time Expression (Tmaturity = LaDbGcSd), which contextualizes maturity through indexed time parameters. Building on this, the Ogunlade Maturity Equation (hM = [A - 1] + [a•b•c•d]) quantifies human maturity in maturon (mat)-a proposed unit representing the expected developmental maturity of a 1-year-old. This quantification supports calculating the Percentage of Human Maturity (%hM) by comparing observed versus predicted hM based on chronological age. The hMTG introduces a categorical maturity spectrum: Pre-maturity (0%), Formative (1-49%), Functional (50-84%), Fulfilled (85-94%), Transcendent (95-100%), and Cosmotic (≥101%), representing increasing levels of developmental integration, social impact, and legacy consciousness. Practical illustrations demonstrate the hMTG’s potential for objectively assessing developmental complexity and individual growth. This framework unifies fragmented maturity assessments and offers a robust psychometric tool with wide-ranging applications in research, education, clinical practice, and leadership development-marking a significant step forward in operationalizing human maturity through maturology.
